Shavuot: Veheyeh Sham - Being There
An Evening of Learning and Practice in Preparation to Receive Torah
With Rabbi Ami Silver
Thursday June 9, 2024 // 19:30-21:00
Shavuot marks the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai, but what exactly is it that about?
We tend to relate to Torah as a book, a text that carries our ancestral traditions and instructions. But the experience at Mount Sinai was one of collective revelation. It was a direct encounter of Divinity that each person experienced. And this is the core, not only of what Mount Sinai was, but of what Torah is. It is an encounter and a felt experience.
In preparation for Shavuot, we will gather together to explore the experiential identity of Torah. We will study texts that orient us toward this facet of Torah and will engage in embodied, contemplative practice together to cultivate a state of openness and presence for encountering Torah in this way.
The Divine invitation to Moses to receive the tablets of the Torah was: “Ascend the mountain, come up to Me – veheyeh sham – and be there” (Exodus 24:12). What could it look and feel like to receive Torah through a state of presence, through being? How does Torah change and transform when we relate to it as a living, experiential communication?
Please join us as we prepare to receive “the living words of the Living Divine.”
You are invited to join us with a basic registration fee of 20 ILS.
At the end of the day you will be invited to give a donation to the teacher for the teaching.
