Beloved & Loving
Exploring the dual aspects of the Shema with Rav James
In Partnership with Pardes Institute North America
Through text study, discussion and concrete meditative practices, we will explore various ways to integrate and embody belovedness and love in our own lives, as the Shema asks us to do. We will develop the capacity to feel beloved and open to our natural love in an intentional way. Sessions will build on each other and so participation in the whole course is strongly recommended. All sessions will be recorded.
Sundays Nov. 14 - Dec. 19
Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes
Location: Zoom
8:30pm Israel / 6:30pm UK / 1:30pm Eastern / 10:30am Pacific.
The Shema, one of the central teachings and practices of our tradition, asks us to recognize at least twice a day that we are both beloved, held in overflowing Divine love, and loving, full of care, concern and commitment to the Divine, each other and this world. Yet how clear is that recognition in our own lives? What would our lives be like if we walked around with this profound clarity?
Through text study and meditative practice, this class welcomes us to explore the deep wellsprings of the Shema. A prayer that is so vital to the Jewish liturgy and yet is often said by rote. We will have the chance to really embody the dual aspects of the Shema - listening and hearing, our intrinsic belovedness and the loving nature that is our birthright.
In this Course, We Will:
Engage with the Shema in a way that is somatic as well as cognitive.
Delve into both text study and mindfulness practice.
Bring this central prayer into our lives in a way that will awaken us from within.
